The leading developers of language resources and technologies meet in Malta

On May 17-23 2010, the leading European developers of language resources and technologies gathered in Valletta, the capital of Malta, to share their knowledge and latest discoveries in the field of language resources, machine translation and voice technology. It happened of researchers and professionals in the middle of the popular conference LREC 2010 (the International Conference on language resources and Evaluation) and the European Union's financial support to projects/exhibitions dating event (ECU projects village).

The president of ELRA (European Language Resources Association), Stelios Piperidis, set out the META-SHARE initiative vision of an exchange platform of open, integrated and interoperable language resources and tools. Roberto Cencioni (Head of Unit, European Commission Information Society and Media Directorate E digital content & Cognitive systems) highlighted the language technology and resource development prospects in Europe. The leader of Tilde's Language system innovations, Inguna Skadiņa, says that "LREC is one of the most visited conferences (this year it had more than 1000 participants), so it is not only a great opportunity to learn about current events and the latest advances in language technologies, but also a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas and meet face to face the leading industry professionals.  A pleasant surprise was Roberto Cencioni's interest in the implementation progress of the projects managed by Tilde. But in seminar on comparable corpora we learned that also one of the leading specialists in this field, Pascale Fung, plays with ideas similar to our ACCURAT project."

Company tilde exhibition ECU projects village presented small language for Windows 7 RC (release candidate) development projects and ACCURAT you LetsMT!, which are the leading partner. The main objective of the ACCURAT project is to study the methods and techniques that can be used to prevent one of the main machine translation (MT) problems — the lack of linguistic resources in small languages and specific areas. While the project LetsMT! aims at creating a self-service machine platform on the Internet.
